Well...NO! I figured I'd start at the top by inquiring how much to rent Daytona International Speedway for a future 2007 MuscleRides event. You sittin' down?

$35,000 per day for full competition use with safety and amenities. $35K! AND..All track dates are sold out for 2007. If you want to secure 2008, you must sign a multi-year contract to get priority.

The search continues....

LOL!!! Sooooo your saying we have to wait to 2008??

What about Sebring?

You're dealing with the mighty France's, Steevo. Money is like...... tater chips to them.

But in the grand scheme of things...that shouldnt be too hard to work out (except for the multi year thing). How many of us have paid $1000 to drive a Richard Petty Experience or something like that for only a few laps? So I dont know...depending on details, I would entertain a $1000 entry fee to race all day!! I would guess there are at least 35 others. Start saving now guys...its only $20 a week:bthumb:

That's very true, and I'm sure we can figure out how to provide $1000's worth of entertainment, but we'd like to promote events that are more "open". Plus we really want two day events with food, music, etc. The only way to swing a fee like Daytona is with the aid of a major sponsor such as a tire company--which is not impossible.

At this point, I'm just collecting info. I thought that dollar figure was worthy of mention.

take a look at em. Only problem I would see is that we don't have a run through the hills here..maybe a run through the Bayou..or swamp..or devistation.

There's Moroso Motorsports park in Florida but it is not a central location.

Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC
50-60 miles SE of Charlotte, NC out in the wilderness. Nothing else around to do. Pageland, SC has an 1/8 mile d/s not too far from CMP. Might could do a joint venture.

Let's examine this from a different angle:

What is the top speed that you are willing to take your car and yourself on a real racetrack? Case in point 411 Speedway has limited runoffs with walls to contain the accident. Remember that bad things can happen such as cutting a tire, losing your brakes, locking up an engine, fluids on track, and simple driver error.

At 411 we limited speed to about 80 mph. Looked like a coupla cars could hit 90.

Again, what is the top speed that you are willing to take your car and yourself on a real racetrack. You may not have thought about it before, but your answer should depend on how much safety equipment is built into your car. So think it through carefully.

really hard question, i think i would have no problem pushing it to 150, however it would not be on the ragged edge of needing to turn quickly at the end of the blast, but with my cage, and car yet to be driven i think 80-100 on something like 411 , i would be ok with, still knowing what would happen if i hit the wall.
i know in steevos car we probaly hit 85 or so, and i was not feeling like we were on the ragged edge of losing control and wrecking

Did 120 at Road Atlanta. That would be about max for these old bones.

I can't go very fast in my car. Because it's old and needs a new motor, bigger
brakes, safety equipment etc.. Plus I don't have the experience or confidence in myself and equipment. I'd go maybe 100mph - 120mph.
If I make some improvements, I'll go faster.
But I would pay for and attend the event regardless.
Just to make it happen .

You guys are making me scared of looking at Infineon over here. Awesome road course, drag strip, and the wine country...... I need lottery tickets. Bad. Winning ones are preferable.

Steevo, I went 92mph at 411 that saturday of the event, I just have the stock brakes and stopping it wasn't a problem.(untill next event time), So with the upgraded brake systems you all got I don't see stopping being a problem for you guys even at speeds over 100mph. You know if you really look at it TN, GA, KY they are all centrally located. Has anyone given Bowling Green KY (Beechbend raceway) any thought? it's very large has a huge concrete section for a nice show or auto-x coarse and has an awsome track.. just my .02 worth Scot w.

Honestly? As fast as the track allows. I'd love to do a standing mile, or run a course with a huge straight where 170 is possible.

You're all scaring me. Remember to subtract speed to compensate for when things go wrong. Goodguys has it easy--not much danger in planning events where evryone just parks and stands around.

If you compensated speed for when things "MAY" go wrong, you would'nt end up having any fun!!! "Drive it like you stole it" at least thats what it looked like on the auto-x track:badsmily: Scot w.

Seems like hooking up at one of these SCCA Driving Experience events would work. It's for street cars and has some instruction classes to help out skills included.

That's how I like to think. But since we are transitioning away from static car shows, I need to know how others feel as well. If someone falls out of a lawn chair, we all laugh. But if someone's brakes fail, that's a different story.

That's on my list. It's a little too close to Pigeon Forge for a second event. But it would work as a third event--which was the thinking behind the Daytona inquiry. For a second show, I'd like to see something more centrally located and further north. Ohio, Indiana....

I've been trying to figure out where, when, and how to get into one of the SCCA Performance Driving Experiences, but I can't find any of the details on the SCCA website. Has anybody got any more info. or can they tell me how to find out ? Maybe I'm just overlooking something. Maybe there is just not a schedule posted until next season.

It is only 155 miles from here. Plus, anyone that wants to run there can run at the Year One Experience so no need for us to do that track on our own. Cool place for an event though, no doubt about that.

Might try Barber's Motorsports Park near Birmingham or the track that Air Ride uses for their event near Indy.

if you want a cool autocross track, go to Little Talledega..East of Bham, near the big Speedway. It used to cost only $750 per day..mostly used for shifter carts and motorcycles...We've rented it several times..Last time I was over there, I turned a rented race car over umpteen times..spit glass for a week..it was fun..

Not only that, his driving skills make up for underpowered/underbuilt cars too.
(I am talking about a certain Malibu I know about)

I've run that track numerous times on motorcycles. Fun, tight in spots with a good sweeping turn. Very flat though. I think they have redone the track since I have been there.
