did anyone go to the MYrtle beach Run to the Sun Show? Ken Sarbu won the street car last year (he also won the truck end of the show back in 2002 I think it was)..So he went there this year as the last years winners are invited to be there for the next year and their cars/trucks are on the T Shirt the following year. he has had some nice cars and deserved to win it when he won but that deal is the most erratic show I have seen as far as judging. He said one of this years winners was a real joke. I know one guy that had a real nice 32 Cabriolet there and he was in the final 5 of goodguys and top 25 at Shades. He got beat by a piece you will probably never see win anything else. He won't be back. I won't go back. Don't their promoters understand when they do something this goofy that the party that got obviously screwed will not be back? This 32 guy has real nice stuff, and will be building nice stuff for years to come. They have lost the kind of guy it takes to make a successful show. Politics and friendships absolutely have no place in the judging of a show.

We drove down for that show a few years back. We had a good time, but the show seemed a little disorganized.

You expect a show to be disorganized the first few years, but this show has been going on for several years. I went a few years in a row and got disgusted and haven't been back. Myrtle Beach is not an easy place to get to. I'd like to go to the big Harley Show there..

are you taslking about that Gary Chopit 56 Ford or whatever it was. I agree it was an ugly duckling but i thought the work was pretty decent and it had one hell of a lot of work in it...albeit in the wrong direction to my taste. It brought way over 300K at Monterey in August. Chopit threw a fit when he was at the Jax Goodguys last year and they voted Ken Sarbu's 62 Buvbblertop Chevy over his car. Gary Chopit's car is an ISCA car..Goodguys judges would hate that thing. I don't know what Starbird is thinking..I do agree with his first 2 picks as you do...but the last 2...was the blue Caddy the one that Rick Dore built?

I went - got some pictures to show off shortly. I'm uploading them now. I thought it was a pretty good turnout considering it's not nationally sanctioned by any big organizations.

it's a big show..kicks off the season...he picked a great time to have a show in a warm climate..it's just too hard to get to, and they wouldn't know a nice car if it ran over them..plus they operate on the buddy system..my motto fu*k me once shame on you...do it twice shame on me...I haven't been back..

I can understand the hard to get to part. SC should've extended I20 on over closer to Myrtle Beach. There are far too many places that you have to slow down on 501. I bet it would cut an hour plus off the trip.

I would like to let you know that, after reading your post about the "piece" that won this year's Run to the Sun (2007 in case you aren't paying attention), is one 1932 Ford 3 window coupe. YOU may think it is a piece, but I, however DO NOT. You see, that car was BUILT by my father. I can assure you that you are a schmuck for thinking that a CUSTOM street rod built from nothing but hard work and sweat is a "piece" as you put it, and that you are truly ignorant. There is NO buddy system at the MB car show, since we are not affiliated with the Pee Dee Street Rodders Car Club, which would probably LOVE to know what you are saying about their car show and club.

I can simply say that my father deserved to win Car of the Year, and I guess, since your "friend's" car had won the previous year, he was disqualified from winning this year. Did that thought ever come into your mind? So, next time you think to call ANYONE'S car a "piece," I would urge you to stop and think before you stick your proverbial foot in your mouth!!! If you would like to respond, fine. If you don't, that's fine, too.

Stop posting rude comments about my father's car....if you were really concerned about who wins, maybe you should go and try to win with your own car, hmmm? I mean one you built yourself and without having other people do your work.

Oh, and by the way, my father has won quite a few car shows in his day, from hot rods to race cars--they were all built and customized by HIM! Check out Hot Rod Magazine Archives for an article done in 1996 on a 37 Chevy race car named Equal Justice. Just another of my father's toys. Add that to the long list of "piece" cars, and you will have a total of at least 8 cars... including an interview about his Volvo P1800 race car 2 years ago with Don Garlits.

Oh, and have YOU actually seen the car???

get your panties out of a wad. You obviously didn't read my post. I said Ken Sarbu was there because the previous years winner is invited there. I didn't say it was his 32 Cabriolet that lost. Ken didn't even have a car in the show, but was there as the previous years winner. The car I was referring to was the 32 that Mike Rutter built. By calling a car a piece, I am not referring to a piece as anything derogatory. a piece is any single thing, specimen, example etc. I don't know what your definition of piece is but that's straight out of Webster's. I would advise you to read a post and understand it's meaning before you stick your foot in your mouth. Just how old are you anyway? Will his 32 be at Goodguys Indy, Columbus, Atlanta?? or Knoxville or Louisville NSRA??

Let me just clarify something, please. When someone refers to the winning car, and it is termed a "piece"--around here, that is taken as "piece of sh*t." I would also assume that, by your post of He said one of this years winners was a real joke. I know one guy that had a real nice 32 Cabriolet there and he was in the final 5 of goodguys and top 25 at Shades. He got beat by a piece you will probably never see win anything else. ..... Politics and friendships absolutely have no place in the judging of a show. that you have absolutely NO idea of what my father's car looks like, nor have you seen any of his other work. I have pictures of his hot rod, as well as pictures of many of the other cars that he has built.

From my impression, this car show is dedicated to raising money and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, not raising awareness of who thinks whom ever got screwed or favored.

As for your question to my age....I don't think that it is relevant, but I am 27 years old, and have been working on cars since I was old enough to figure out that I loved old cars. I was at the drag strip and car shows before I could put a sentence together or walk. I have been around car fanatics my whole life, and I still don't understand why people would get so uptight about someone else's victory when the reasons for my father's win are so clear. His car is not a joke, nor is the craftsmanship that he displays.

As for the other shows, I don't know what his plans are for attending shows, but I'm sure that he will be at some of them. I can't speak for him, nor would I try to. It is not my place, except to stand up and defend him and his work. He has built cars for more than 40 years, and I appreciate everything that he has done and the time that I have spent helping him do that. My father has talent, and has been told by other people that he has, not just by his daughter.

dont worry, we don't hate customs. Bob's custom cuda was the street machine of the year 2006 so customs are us.
Your dad's car is a nice ride, and don't get all up in the air if it gets critqued here, so does everyones car. Don Garlits does stories an alot of cars, he even did one on my junk, that is no big accomplishment, it just shows a famous drag racer liked the look.
One thing, we are about driving cars here, not static car shows. If your Dad's car hits the gravel, we are on it, if it is a parking lot beauty queen, it probably won't fit in here. We don't dis anyone here, but we do say what we think. Hopefully, as a daughter you won't take that personal.

Car looks good...real good for a home built piece. Notice when you or Kenny or whoever says "piece" it is stressed by quote marks, CAPS or something. I didn't do that. You are jumping the gun. You are new to this site and don't understand exactly how I say things. I do like your fathers car...whether it's as nice as the Rutter built piece, a matter of opinion but not in my opinion. The proof of the pudding will be when he attends the NSRA and Goodguys shows. Post a picture of you where I'll know what you look like...so I can watch out for you and try to keep you from scratching my eyes out if you attend a show with your dad. lol...sorry you took offense to what I said..your father has good taste and has obviously provided you with a good education. You say you can't speak for your dad...I think you're doing a pretty good job of it. Forwarn me next time so I won't step in this bucket again..lol...

Nope, no picture of me on this site, nor of my Dad, Mom or their granddaughter. As for scratching your eyes out, I don't think that is necessary, since I am really unable to attend any shows other than local shows. The demands of family, nursing, and being in Graduate school prevent me from joining my parents on the car show trips. Besides, if I did that, I'd just have to take you to the hospital for treatment...lol...but, I'm not that vindicitive...I would probably just laugh. It's a competitive world according to car fanatics, and, as you say, the proof is in the pudding.

Getting defensive about Dad's car is what I'm supposed to do. I'm his #1 fan, and always will be, and I still think that his car is something special...inside, outside, and on the strip. He's not too old to kick some ass on the track, either.... :)

...and don't get all up in the air if it gets critqued here, so does everyones car....

Exactly. When I can get the time together, I'll have a clean engine compartment to get beaten down because there's smog equipment in it. But it's my car and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it. I like it. I put my blood (literally), sweat (also literally), and tears (heh... yeah, that too) into it. All I care about is that it makes me feel good. If someone calls it a piece of crap, that's their opinion. I'll only defend my work so far. If someone doesn't like it, that's on them. I know quite a few others that do like it. Myself being the most important.

Oh, and if your dad shows his cars, he should expect the criticism. It comes with the territory.

And I also agree with Bob. If I call a car a piece of crap, I say P.O.S. I call a gun a piece, a girl a piece, a knife a piece.... Get my drift?

Yeah, I understand piece now, but earlier....let's just say that it's not part of the vernacular around here as a good thing. Point of reference.....

We're supposed to get defensive about what's ours, but I think that I take exception to anything where my father is concerned. I'm sure you can understand that.....

I agree with you..it's nice to see a daughter that thinks that much of her dads work.
